Richland to host weekly Farmer’s Market

by Kathy Tretter

Kenny Young had the idea and when Shelby Lashley heard about it, he added his support. They began a conversation with Richland Town Council President Dan Kincaid, who shared it with his board and voila! the idea took root, budding into an actual plan.

The result?

The Town of Richland will begin hosting a weekly Farmer’s Market in the Park starting Thursday, July 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. and continuing on Thursday nights through the growing season.

Vendors will be able to set up in the shelter house to vend vegetables, flowers, other food items (including beef from Hot Rod Cattle Company, owned by State Policewoman Sherri Heichelbech), honey and products made from honey and more.

The shelterhouse is equipped with electricity for those who need it.

The good news is there is no charge for vendors because Kincaid Insurance is sponsoring the Farmer’s Market.

There is one rule. “No rummage sale items or crafts,” explained Kincaid.

He is also working with food truck vendors to bring in food trucks on an alternating basis so shoppers can enjoy a meal in the park while shopping. Rumor has it that Acropolis Restaurant in Evansville will vend meals on the first night.

According to Young, several vendors have already committed. If anyone is interested they are “more than welcome to participate.”

Anyone with questions should give Young a call at 812-549-7260.

The park is a WiFi hotspot and also offers plenty of space for the kids to play while mom and dad are checking out the tomatoes.
